How could you forget
what I remember so well?
The day that the towers
burned and then fell?

How could you forget
the sacrifice made?
The lives that were lost?
The price that was paid?

How could you forget
our heroes proved?
Lives given in service?
The country was moved.

Yet now we forget,
forget why we fight.
The pain and the loss
are lost in the night.

The soldiers remember
they know what they do.
And they fight for our country
to protect me and you.

But those who've forgotten
who do not support,
the leaders and soldiers
and heroes from the Port.

The politicians and protesters
who won't see this through.
They seem to forget
that those memories are true.

How could they forget
what so many gave?
Why do they insist
on profaning that grave?

I'll always remember
but what about you?
Will you remember what happened?
Will its meaning come through?
I know I'll remember
and I hope you do, too.
I wrote this a year ago, on the fifth anniversary.

I will always remember, for as long as I live
and thanks for those words, and the hope that they give
